How Alabama handles work zones

Alabama doubles your construction-zone fine, or sets a $250 floor, whichever is greater, and only when workers are present; the signs must say so (Ala. Code §32-5A-176.1). No workers, no double, but the posted reduced limit still binds. New for 2026, an SB 341 speed-camera pilot mails a flat $250 civil ticket, no points, for 10-plus over, worker or not. Speed, fines, phone, and the flagger

• Phone in a work zone: Restricted — put it down

• Base fine: About $20-$100 base municipal speeding fine plus court costs; doubled to a $250 floor when workers are present (§32-5A-176.1). The 2026 SB 341 camera pilot mails a flat $250 civil citation, no points.
