Connecticut Work Zone Laws
Connecticut doubles fines in any construction, utility, or traffic-incident work zone whenever the signs stand (CGS §14-212a). Work-zone speed cameras snap anyone 10 mph or more over, but only with workers present: a warning first, then $75. Go 15+ over or ignore a control with workers there and it becomes endangerment of a highway worker, up to $500, or $1,000 on injury (§14-212d). The statewide handheld ban covers your phone in the zone.

Speed, fines, phone, and the flagger
- Speed rule: Obey the posted work-zone limit whenever the 'FINES DOUBLED' signs stand. Cameras in the state's work-zone speed program photograph anyone 10 mph or more over, but only while workers are present.
- Fine multiplier: Doubled. Fines are doubled in a highway or municipal construction zone, utility work zone, or traffic-incident zone (CGS §14-212a). Separately, going 15+ over or ignoring a control with workers present is endangerment of a highway worker, up to $500, or $1,000 if someone is hurt (§14-212d).
- Phone in a work zone: Restricted — put it down
- Flagger authority: Obey the flagger and every traffic control in the zone. Blowing past them with workers present is endangerment of a highway worker (CGS §14-212d), up to $500, doubling to $1,000 on injury.
- Base fine: A base speeding fine is doubled in the zone under §14-212a. The camera program mails a warning for a first offense, then $75; the endangerment charge (§14-212d) runs up to $500, or $1,000 with injury.
