Arkansas Work Zone Laws
Arkansas doubles the fine for any moving violation when construction crews are in the zone (Ark. Code §27-50-408). On conviction the judge adds a second fine equal to the first, but only if personnel were present and 'Fines Double' signs stood in advance of the zone. Since August 5, 2025 a hands-free rule bans holding a phone in a work zone (Act 445, §27-51-1606). Act 327 of 2025 pulled mobile work zones under the doubling too.

Speed, fines, phone, and the flagger
- Speed rule: Hold the posted work-zone limit; the reduced limit must be signed. The doubled penalty applies when construction personnel are present in the zone (Ark. Code §27-50-408).
- Fine multiplier: Fine doubled when construction personnel are present. On conviction the judge adds a second fine equal to the first, but only if crews were in the zone and 'Fines Double' signs stood in advance of the work zone (Ark. Code §27-50-408).
- Phone in a work zone: Restricted — put it down
- Flagger authority: A flagger's STOP/SLOW paddle directs traffic with the authority of a traffic-control device; disobeying it is a moving violation, and inside the work zone that fine doubles when crews are present (Ark. Code §27-50-408).
- Base fine: The base moving-violation or speeding fine (varies by violation and court); the court adds an equal amount to double it when personnel are present (Ark. Code §27-50-408).
