Utah Weigh Stations & Ag Inspection
Utah calls them Ports of Entry. Run a gross vehicle or combination weight of 26,001 lb or more and you stop and report when the port is open (Utah Code 72-9-502). By-pass permits and green lights from PrePass or Drivewyze (Echo on I-80) let qualified rigs stay on the highway. Roll past an open port and it is a Class B misdemeanor, about a $260 fine with a mandatory court date (Utah Code 72-9-701).

Stations, bypass, and inspection
- Who must stop: Over a weight threshold
- Where the stations are: Ports of Entry on I-80 (Echo), I-15 (Perry, St. George), I-70 (Thompson), and US-40 (Daniels), among others. Lit OPEN/CLOSED signs; hours vary by port with some running near round-the-clock.
- Bypass: PrePass and Drivewyze both operate in Utah (Drivewyze at Echo on I-80). UDOT also issues multi-trip by-pass permits to carriers who qualify. A green light or a valid bypass permit keeps you on the highway; otherwise report at the open port.
- Ag / border inspection: No inbound produce inspection stations. Livestock and agricultural compliance is checked at the ports of entry, not at a separate quarantine checkpoint.
- Fine for passing an open station: Failure to stop at a port of entry is a Class B misdemeanor, commonly around a $260 fine with a mandatory court appearance (offense under Utah Code 72-9-502; penalty under 72-9-701).
