Massachusetts Weigh Stations & Ag Inspection
Massachusetts weighs trucks at fixed scales on the Mass Pike (I-90) and I-95, but much of its enforcement is mobile, so a dark scale does not mean you are clear. When a sign directs you in or an officer flags you, stop and cross. Refuse to weigh and it is $300 to $500 plus up to a 90-day license suspension (M.G.L. c.90 §19A). The judge can't cut the overweight fine that follows.

Stations, bypass, and inspection
- Who must stop: Only when a sign directs
- Where the stations are: Fixed scales on I-90 (the Mass Pike) and I-95, plus heavy roving and portable enforcement statewide. Stations run variable hours behind lit signs, and much of the weighing is mobile.
- Bypass: Both run here. PrePass has approved sites and Drivewyze PreClear covers scales such as Sturbridge on I-84. Green keeps you rolling; red or no signal means pull in. Neither clears a mobile officer who flags you.
- Ag / border inspection: No agricultural inspection stations. Massachusetts enforces size and weight, not produce quarantine.
- Fine for passing an open station: Refuse an officer's order to weigh and it is $300 to $500, and the Registrar can suspend your license up to 90 days (M.G.L. c.90 §19A). The overweight fine can't be reduced or suspended by the judge.
