Idaho Weigh Stations & Ag Inspection
Idaho runs Ports of Entry. Gross 26,001 lb or more and you stop when the port is open and signs or an officer send you in (Idaho Code 40-511). Placarded hazmat stops at 10,000 lb. A lit OPEN sign is the order; dark or CLOSED means stay on the mainline, but portable scales still work the corridor. PrePass and Drivewyze can green-light you past. Blow by an open port and it is a misdemeanor, up to $1,000 and six months (Idaho Code 40-512).

Stations, bypass, and inspection
- Who must stop: Over a weight threshold
- Where the stations are: Fixed Ports of Entry on I-84 (East Boise), I-86, I-15 (Sage Junction, Inkom), and I-90, plus major US highways. Lit OPEN/CLOSED signs; hours vary by port and some run long shifts. Portable scales and weigh-in-motion sensors work the gaps between fixed ports.
- Bypass: PrePass and Drivewyze both operate in Idaho, and ITD ports are authorized to electronically green-light qualified rigs. PrePass uses the windshield transponder; Drivewyze runs off the app/ELD. A green light means stay on the mainline; a red or no signal means pull into the open port.
- Ag / border inspection: No produce or pest border-inspection stations. Idaho ports do grade certain commodities (potatoes, for example), but that is a commodity check at the port, not a separate agricultural quarantine station.
- Fine for passing an open station: Failing to stop at a port when required, or to submit to inspection, grading, or weighing, is a misdemeanor: up to a $1,000 fine, up to six months in county jail, or both (Idaho Code 40-512).
