Connecticut Weigh Stations & Ag Inspection
Connecticut is an all-commercial state: every commercial vehicle stops at an open weighing area, no weight threshold to hide behind (C.G.S. §14-267a(h)). When the roadside sign lights OPEN and directs trucks in, you cross the scale. Miss it and a first offense is $250 to $500, then $500 to $1,000 for repeats, and a court can cut only a quarter of the fine. Scales sit on I-95 at Greenwich and I-84 at Union and Danbury.

Stations, bypass, and inspection
- Who must stop: All CMVs must stop
- Where the stations are: Fixed scales at Greenwich (I-95), Union and Danbury (I-84), Middletown, and others, plus portable enforcement. The DMV posts an OPEN/CLOSED schedule and the roadside signs light when a scale is running.
- Bypass: Both available. PrePass has approved sites and Drivewyze PreClear covers the fixed scales, including Greenwich on I-95 and Union on I-84. Green means stay on the mainline; red or no signal means enter.
- Ag / border inspection: No agricultural inspection stations. Connecticut runs weight and safety enforcement, not produce quarantine.
- Fine for passing an open station: $250 to $500 for a first offense, $500 to $1,000 for each one after. A court may remit at most 25% of the fine (C.G.S. §14-267a).
