Nevada Truck Weight Limits
On the Interstate it's the federal 80,000 pounds. Off the Interstate Nevada runs some of the heaviest legal combinations in the country - doubles and triples with 9 or more axles gross up to 129,000 pounds on approved routes. Single axle stays 20,000, tandem 34,000. Per-pound fines are modest (NRS 484D.680) but double on seasonally restricted highways in the spring thaw.

Axles, off-Interstate, and permits
- Off the Interstate: Up to 129,000 lb for combinations with 9 or more axles on approved non-Interstate routes; 80,000 lb otherwise
- Single axle: 20,000 lb
- Tandem axle: 34,000 lb (two axles not more than 96 in. apart)
- With a permit: 129,000 lb on 9+ axles (Rocky Mountain doubles and triples) on Nevada-designated non-Interstate routes
Posted bridge and road limits
Load-limited bridges and roads carry MUTCD R12 signs; 'WEIGHT LIMIT X TONS' is short tons (2,000 lb), so 10 TONS = 20,000 lb. A posted limit overrides the legal or permitted maximum - a fully legal load still cannot cross a bridge posted below its weight. Crossing over a posted limit is a separate violation and the operator can be held liable for structural damage.
What running heavy costs
NRS 484D.680 charges per pound over: 1-1,500 over = $10; 1,501-2,500 = 1 cent/lb; 2,501-5,000 = 2 cents/lb; 5,001-7,500 = 4 cents/lb; 7,501-10,000 = 6 cents/lb; 10,001 lb and over = 8 cents/lb. The fine doubles on a DOT-designated seasonally restricted highway (Feb 1 to May 1).
