New York Truck Lane Restrictions

New York has no statewide truck-lane statute, but the Thruway does. Regulation 21 NYCRR 103.6 keeps trucks, buses, and trailers out of the extreme-left lane on the Thruway as posted, and holds trucks and trailers to the right two lanes, also as posted. It lifts where construction or a crash takes the normal lanes away, and where you need the left lane to enter or leave an interchange. NYSDOT posts truck-lane signs on other multi-lane corridors (VTL 1128). State Police ticket it. Watch for the sign, and where one is up, stay out of the left lane.
