Hawaii Studded Tire Law
Metal studs are banned year-round (HRS 291-33). Any metal projection destructive to the road is illegal; only rubber blocks and detachable tire chains are allowed. The lone metal-stud carve-out is the Mauna Kea access road and Science Reserve - nowhere you'll haul freight. There's no out-of-state pass-through exception and no weight threshold; the ban is flat. Hawaii never really needs studs, so it's a non-issue unless you're climbing Mauna Kea.

The window and winter-tire rules
- Season: Metal studs prohibited year-round (HRS 291-33). Only exception is the Mauna Kea access road above Hale Pohaku and roads within the Mauna Kea Science Reserve.
- No traction-tire law and effectively no snow to drive in - metal studs are simply banned by a weight-blind flat rule. Rubber blocks and ordinary detachable tire or skid chains are the only grip devices allowed statewide (HRS 291-33). No out-of-state pass-through exception.
