Thresholds, escorts, and curfews
- Legal max before a permit: Permit needed over 8'6" wide, 14' high on the Interstate/US/state highways (13'6" on county roads), or 80,000 lb gross. Loads over 16' wide are barred from the Interstate.
- Escort / pilot car: Over 12' up to 14' wide: one front escort on two-lane, one rear escort on multi-lane. Over 14' wide: front and rear on two-lane, one rear escort on multi-lane. Over 16' wide: front and rear on all roads. Height 15'9" or more: front and rear plus advance notice to utilities and railroads. Length over 80': one front escort; over 100': front and rear.
- Superload: Oklahoma draws its superload line off the OL-1 standard drawing: any overweight load past those axle standards is a superload needing engineering review. Newly manufactured loads over 16' up to 23' wide, off the Interstate, take a $500 Special Movement permit. Over 16' wide keeps you off the Interstate.
- Travel curfew: Daylight, a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset, seven days a week. Overweight-only loads can request continuous travel when they order the permit. Interstate rush-hour curfews apply in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metros. Holiday no-move windows apply. Read the conditions stapled to the permit.
- Permit fee: Oversize-only single-trip permit $40. Combined oversize/overweight $80 plus a per-1,000-lb overweight charge. Special Movement permit $500. Annual fleet permits available for repeat runs.
