Minnesota Oversize & Overweight Permits
Legal to 8'6" wide, 13'6" high, 80,000 lb, 75' combination. Over that, a single-trip oversize permit is just $15; add weight and you pay a route-based damage fee. Loads over 14'6" wide, 110' long, or 16' high need certified escorts, front and rear on two-lane roads. Watch the calendar: no summer travel Fridays and Sundays 2–8 p.m. over 9' wide or 110' long, and spring thaw kills over-axle weights from about March into mid-May.

Thresholds, escorts, and curfews
- Legal max before a permit: Permit needed over 8'6" wide, over 13'6" high, over 80,000 lb, or over 45' single unit / 75' combination length.
- Escort / pilot car: Loads over 14'6" wide, over 110' long, or over 16' high need lead and rear escorts on two-lane roads and a rear escort on divided/multilane roads. Escort drivers must be MN State Patrol certified or hold a reciprocal certification. Below that, flags and amber lights.
- Superload: MN publishes no single superload number. Anything over legal weight needs route approval, and heavy loads climb the annual overweight schedule to 155,000 lb ($900). Very heavy or very large single-trip loads get route and bridge review before issuance.
- Travel curfew: Bigger loads run daylight only. Memorial Day to Labor Day, no travel Fridays and Sundays 2–8 p.m. for loads over 9' wide and/or 110' long. Spring thaw (about March 1 to mid-May) bans over-axle weights; a winter increase adds roughly 10% on axles starting in December. Holidays restricted.
- Permit fee: Single-trip oversize $15; oversize+overweight $15 plus a route damage-assessment fee. Job/multi-trip (60 days) $36. Annual permits $60–$850 by category; annual overweight $200 (to 90,000 lb) rising to $900 (145,001–155,000 lb).
