Michigan Truck Idling Law

Michigan has no statewide idling rule and leans on voluntary programs, so "no statewide fine" refers to state law only. Detroit does have a local ordinance: commercial vehicles over 8,500 pounds are limited to 5 consecutive minutes per hour (City Code Ch. 55, Art. IV, Div. 6). The cold-weather break is narrow — only when the truck stays motionless more than 2 hours and it is continuously below 25F. Penalties reach $500 for repeats, but the ordinance is rarely enforced. Elsewhere in Michigan there is no time limit.
