Kentucky Truck Idling Law
Kentucky has no statewide idling time limit, so idling while you are with the truck is unrestricted. But under KRS 189.430 you may not leave a vehicle standing unattended without stopping the engine and removing the key ($20 to $100 fine, KRS 189.990; Louisville treats it as a parking violation). Trucks with an APU also get up to a 400-pound weight allowance (KRS 189.222(11)).
When you can keep idling
This state has no statewide idling limit, so there are no statutory exemptions to list. Local ordinances, where they exist, carry their own.
APUs and idle-reduction gear
Vehicles equipped with an APU may exceed weight limits by up to 400 pounds (KRS 189.222(11)).
City and county ordinances
- Louisville Metro Code 72.032 treats leaving a vehicle running unattended as a parking violation.
