Alabama Truck Idling Law
Alabama has no statewide idling time limit. It does enforce a smoke rule (Ala. Admin. Code r. 335-3-9-.01): diesel exhaust may not be darker than 20% opacity for more than 5 seconds — an emissions rule, not a time limit. A truck with an APU or idle-reduction tech gets up to a 400-pound weight allowance (Ala. Code 32-9-20); note that is 400 lbs, less than the 550 lbs many states allow.
When you can keep idling
This state has no statewide idling limit, so there are no statutory exemptions to list. Local ordinances, where they exist, carry their own.
APUs and idle-reduction gear
No idling time limit, but idle-reduction tech (APU) earns up to a 400-pound weight allowance (Ala. Code 32-9-20) — note this is 400 lbs, not the 550 lbs many states allow; carry written proof of the APU's weight.
City and county ordinances
No notable city or county idling ordinance was found for Alabama in the EPA, DOE, or ATRI references. Watch local noise and parking rules.
