Virginia declares no spring load restriction. VDOT does not cut axle or gross weight when frost leaves the ground, so your federal 80,000-lb limits stand all year on the Interstate and primary roads (Va. Code § 46.2-1126 et seq.). The live risk is a posted structure. VDOT weight-posts hundreds of bridges, and that sign overrides your legal weight (§ 46.2-1130). Pull VDOT's posted-bridge list or call 511 before you send a heavy load onto a posted route.

• Season: No seasonal restrictions. VDOT declares no spring thaw window.
• Reduction: None. No seasonal reduction. Posted bridges carry a fixed weight limit year round, and that sign is the cap.
• Interstates: Exempt from the seasonal reduction
• Find the current order: No seasonal order exists. Use VDOT's posted-bridge list or call 511 (511.vdot.virginia.gov) for current weight-restricted structures before routing.
• Overweight penalty: Standard overweight fine. Virginia assesses liquidated damages of 2¢ per pound over the limit up to 5,000 lb over, and 5¢ per pound when the excess tops 5,000 lb (Va. Code § 46.2-1135). Crossing a posted structure over its limit is a separate offense.
