2. Follow the "Snow Plow Rule"
If you are behind a snow plow, stay there .Do not attempt to pass a plow in a blizzard.The road in front of the plow is untreated and unplowed.You will likely lose traction, jackknife, and cause a 50 - truck pileup.
3. "Rolling Closures"
Wyoming DOT uses a system called "Rolling Closures." If the road is impassable at Elk Mountain, they won't just close it at the mountain. They will close it all the way back in Cheyenne or even Nebraska. Why? Because the tiny towns near Elk Mountain cannot support 500 stranded semi-trucks. By closing it in Cheyenne, truckers have access to truck stops, food, and fuel.

Before you even leave Nebraska(going West) or Utah(going East), check the Trucker Route app.If you see high wind warnings or chain laws going into effect, find a truck stop early.Don't push your luck. If I-80 closes, it can stay closed for 3 days.
