Bendix to integrate Aeva 4D LiDAR into next-gen Class 8 safety systems
Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems will add Aeva's 4D LiDAR sensors and perception software to its collision mitigation systems for Class 8 trucks headed to mass production, according to FreightWaves. The program expands Bendix's existing Fusion ADAS platform, which already runs on most major Class 8 manufacturers' vehicles. With roughly 300,000 new Class 8 trucks entering the North American market annually, the collaboration targets one of the first LiDAR-based L2+ driver assistance solutions for commercial vehicles at scale. The move reflects a broader industry shift toward using advanced perception in active safety systems rather than reserving sensor technology solely for autonomous driving development. Mike Tober, chief technology officer at Bendix, said Aeva's 4D LiDAR improves system performance during critical driving scenarios and helps collision mitigation work better across varying real-world conditions. Mina Rezk, co-founder and chief technology officer at Aeva, called the program a milestone in the two companies' partnership and a step toward delivering next-generation safety solutions for fleets at scale. For drivers and fleet operators, this development means newer trucks will carry more sophisticated sensors to detect obstacles and hazards, potentially reducing accident rates and insurance costs associated with preventable collisions.
