Mack's OTR push gains traction with Pioneer and Anthem updates
Mack Trucks' entry into the over-the-road market is picking up speed fourteen months after launching the Pioneer in April 2025, with order books for both the Pioneer and Anthem sold out through year-end, according to FreightWaves. The manufacturer unveiled product updates at its Allentown research center near its North American production plant. The Pioneer now comes standard with a 76-inch sleeper, up from the 64-inch option in the Anthem and earlier Pioneer versions. The sleeper cab also includes a battery-driven integrated parking cooler that functions as an auxiliary power unit to run air conditioning when the truck is parked. The two models differ significantly in their bumper-to-back-of-cab measurements. The Pioneer measures 125.5 inches, while the Anthem comes in at 113.5 inches after a recent reduction from 117 inches. These dimensional changes affect how much freight space fleets have available and how efficiently they can load trailers for highway work. Mack founded in Brooklyn in the early 20th century is betting it can capture market share in long-haul trucking, a segment where the brand had limited presence. The sold-out order book suggests fleets are willing to consider Mack as an alternative to established OTR players, though production numbers remain undisclosed. For owner-operators and fleet managers evaluating equipment, the updates signal Mack's commitment to competing on comfort and cargo capacity alongside its established reputation for durability.
