Mack MP13 Engine Hits 540 HP, 3% Better Fuel Economy for 2027 EPA Standards
Key Details Mack Trucks revealed its EPA 2027-compliant MP13 diesel engine at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Las Vegas, delivering up to 540 horsepower and 1,950 lb.-ft. of torque. The new powerplant achieves up to 3% improved fuel efficiency compared to previous MP13 models while meeting stricter emissions regulations. Performance Gains The engine delivers significantly stronger braking power at 630 horsepower, representing more than a 20% improvement over the prior version. It achieves a nearly 75% reduction in nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions and features an optimized torque curve that delivers peak torque at just 900 RPM for improved drivability and downspeeding. Why It Matters The MP13 uses a lighter-weight compact graphite iron block and meets EPA 2027 standards through advanced combustion improvements and lower engine-out emissions. It's compatible with renewable diesel (R100) and biodiesel blends up to B20, up from B10 previously, giving fleets more sustainability options. Availability Orders begin in August 2026, with model year 2028 production. Mack notes the EPA is still expected to revise its 2027 requirements, particularly regarding warranty and useful life provisions that could impact pricing.
