Averitt Invests in Major Regional Hubs in Charlotte and Louisville
Key Details Averitt Express broke ground in May on two substantial regional service centers in Charlotte, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky. Both facilities will replace existing smaller locations and are scheduled to open in 2028. The carrier identified these markets as critical expansion points as the freight industry recovers from an extended downturn. Why It Matters As the No. 12 LTL carrier in North America, Averitt is taking a different approach than competitors by building new terminals rather than acquiring Yellow Corp. facilities. The company is constructing multi-division campuses that will house LTL, truckload, dedicated, distribution, and fulfillment operations under one roof. Charlotte Expansion The North Carolina facility represents one of Averitt's most significant investments in its 55-year history. The campus will feature a 16,000-square-foot office, a 150-door crossdock, over 500,000 square feet of warehouse space, and parking for 400+ trailers. Averitt plans to hire 211 new associates in Charlotte over four years, more than doubling its current workforce there. Louisville Growth The Kentucky location will add 64 jobs while retaining 182 existing employees. The campus includes a 10,000-square-foot office and a 100-door crossdock expandable to 160 doors, plus over 286,000 square feet of warehouse space. Both expansions position Averitt to better serve growing regional markets.
