TMC Pushes ADAS Adoption With Updated TechCelerate Resources
Key Details The Technology & Maintenance Council is expanding its support for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's TechCelerate Now program, which aims to accelerate adoption of advanced driver-assistance systems across the trucking industry. FMCSA renewed the initiative in 2024 for a four-year second phase after launching it in 2020. TMC Executive Director Robert Braswell announced progress on developing resources and recommended practices during the council's 2026 Annual Meeting in Nashville. Why It Matters Industry awareness and acceptance of ADAS technologies continues to grow as fleets recognize safety and operational benefits. ADAS capabilities now extend beyond automatic emergency braking and lane departure warnings to include road-facing cameras, driver-facing cameras, and camera-based mirror replacement systems. Improved sensor integration has enhanced accuracy and reduced false positives. Tools and Resources TechCelerate Now has updated its return-on-investment calculator to help fleets evaluate which safety technologies fit their operations. The calculator tool, available at www.techceleratenow.org, is considered one of the program's signature achievements. TMC is also gathering adoption rate data and developing additional recommended practices to guide fleets through ADAS implementation and deployment challenges.
