Tesla Recalls 173 Cybertrucks Over Faulty Wheel Rotor Cracks
Why It Matters Tesla is recalling 173 Cybertrucks due to a critical wheel safety defect that could lead to loss of vehicle control. The issue affects 2024-2026 model year trucks equipped with 18-inch steel wheels, making this a serious concern for fleet operators and owner-operators. The Problem Rough road conditions and aggressive cornering can strain the stud holes in wheel rotors, causing cracks to develop. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, continued driving allows wheel studs to separate from the hub, potentially causing wheel detachment and collision risk. What's Being Done Tesla will replace front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts with more durable components at no cost to owners. The recall number is SB-26-33-003, and affected owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Additional Recall Tesla is also addressing a software issue affecting over 200,000 Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 vehicles that temporarily disables rearview camera functionality. This recall number is SB-26-00-016. Tesla reports no crashes, injuries, or fatalities from either issue to date.
