Target Expands Next-Day Delivery Network to 20 New Cities This Spring
Key Details Target is rolling out next-day delivery to 20 additional metropolitan areas starting this spring, expanding its reach to more than 50 cities nationwide. The expansion will bring next-day service to 60% of the U.S. population and includes locations like Birmingham, Honolulu, Santa Barbara, and Fort Myers. Currently, Target operates next-day delivery in approximately 35 major markets. Why It Matters This expansion is part of Target's $2 billion investment in stores and operations during 2026. The retailer leverages a unique store-as-fulfillment-center model where local stores pick and pack orders, then route them through 11 regional sortation centers for last-mile delivery via Shipt or third-party carriers. This approach reduces costs and improves efficiency compared to traditional warehouse fulfillment. Fast Growth Target's same-day services generated over $14 billion in sales last year, representing two-thirds of total digital sales. The company reports that 85% of in-store merchandise is eligible for next-day delivery, and two-thirds of all digital orders are fulfilled same-day through drive-up, in-store pickup, or same-day delivery. Next-day delivery is free for orders over $35, or with no minimum for Target Circle 360 members and credit card holders.
