Mitchell 1 Speeds Up Tech Repairs With Unit Number Search Feature
Key Details Mitchell 1 has launched Unit Number Search within its TruckSeries platform, allowing fleet technicians to access repair information using internal asset tags instead of VINs. The feature was unveiled at the American Trucking Associations' Technology & Maintenance Council annual meeting in Nashville. How It Works Fleets provide Mitchell 1 with a mapping of their unit numbers to specific vehicles. Technicians can then enter the unit number - often painted on the truck's side - directly into the search bar and instantly access the correct repair information. This eliminates navigation through model years and VIN searches. Why It Matters Fleet technicians work with dozens of vehicles daily and think in unit numbers, not VINs. Even small delays in finding repair information add up to significant operational costs. Kristy Coffman, director of Mitchell 1's Commercial Vehicle Group, notes that every minute spent navigating VINs represents real money lost in busy shops. Additional Improvements Mitchell 1 also rolled out a "Did You Mean" search feature that recognizes misspellings and incomplete entries. This prevents repairs from stalling due to minor typing errors. The enhancements come as Mitchell 1 celebrates 20 years of providing online commercial vehicle repair information since launching Tractor-Trailer.net in 2006.
