Jacksonville Port Launches Weekly Direct Service from China
Key Details The Port of Jacksonville has secured a new weekly container service connecting directly to China and Asian markets. The Chesapeake Bay Express (CBX) is operated by CMA CGM, Cosco, OOCL, and Evergreen Marine as part of the Ocean Alliance partnership. The inaugural sailing arrives at Jaxport in June. Service Route The CBX rotation includes major Asian ports - Vung Tau (Vietnam), Shanghai and Yantian (China), Busan (South Korea), and Kobe (Japan) - before transiting the Panama Canal to reach Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, and Jacksonville on the U.S. East Coast. The service then returns to Vung Tau to complete the loop. Why It Matters This direct connection strengthens Jacksonville's position as a strategic gateway for shippers moving goods between the Southeast and Asia. As the final U.S. port of call, Jaxport will serve as a key hub for equipment repositioning and expedited transit of U.S. exports. The route provides new routing flexibility that can improve logistics efficiency for carriers. Operational Support SSA Marine will handle stevedoring services at the modernized SSA Jacksonville Container Terminal at Blount Island. A separate project to increase air draft to 205 feet remains on track for completion by end of 2026, supporting larger vessel operations.
