I-65 Louisville Closure June-August: Updated Detour Routes for Drivers
Key Details Starting June 1st, Interstate 65 in Louisville will close completely for two months through August 1st. The five-mile closure between I-264 and downtown Louisville affects approximately 125,000 daily drivers and will enable critical bridge replacements over Kentucky Street, Hill Street, and Bradley Avenue. Why It Matters This full closure saves the region from over a year of partial lane closures. Once completed, the new bridges will provide safer infrastructure designed to last 75 years. However, substantial work continues through late 2027. Detour Strategy All traffic will be rerouted to I-264 on Louisville's west side. Traffic studies over two years confirmed I-264 offers the shortest alternate route with adequate capacity. KYTC will temporarily widen certain I-264 ramps to handle increased volume. Downtown Access Drivers entering downtown can use the Jefferson Street exit from southbound I-65 or take I-64. To exit downtown, use the East Liberty Street ramp to northbound I-65. Plan for extended travel times during this two-month period.
