FMCSA Raises UCR Registration Fees 20% Starting 2027
Key Details The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has proposed a 20% average increase to Unified Carrier Registration fees beginning in 2027. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking will be published in the Federal Register on April 7, with fee hikes ranging from $9 to $9,329 per entity depending on fleet size. Why It Matters FMCSA says the increase is necessary to cover a projected $21.79 million funding shortfall required by law. Despite the hike, 2027 fees will still be lower than rates charged from 2019 through 2022, the agency noted. What You Need to Know Motor carriers, private carriers, brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies must pay annual UCR fees based on fleet size. These fees support state highway motor carrier registration and safety programs across 41 participating states. The fee structure is mandated under the UCR Act of 2005.
