Amazon Expanding Drone Deliveries to 30M Customers in 2025
Key Details Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced plans to significantly expand Prime Air drone delivery capacity throughout 2025, aiming to reach 30 million customers by year's end. The company expects drones to deliver 500 million packages annually by 2030, with most arriving in under 30 minutes. Prime Air has already delivered over 500 million same-day packages so far in 2026 from 85 fulfillment centers stocking Amazon's top 90,000 products. What to Know About the Drones The MK30 drone, Amazon's flagship model, weighs 83 pounds and carries items up to 5 pounds. These aircraft cruise at 73 mph at heights between 200-300 feet, using six vertical propellers and tandem wings. They can operate in light precipitation and winds exceeding 20 mph, dropping packages from approximately 13 feet high. Why It Matters Amazon's push for faster delivery reflects customer demand for rapid order fulfillment, which drives purchase completion rates. The company plans to launch Chicago-area service by late spring with 12-20 drones per hub. Prime Air currently operates in Kansas City, San Antonio, Waco, Detroit, Dallas-Fort Worth, Tampa, and Phoenix suburbs. This expansion could significantly impact logistics networks and how trucking companies compete in last-mile delivery services.
